Hello Happy Valley visitors! It’s Mikayla Austin here and I’m one of the interns this summer. Yesterday, I was able to experience Big Basin red woods state park! Thanks to Tess and Donald, all of us interns had an incredible time! Whether it was burning s’mores (mainly me) or admiring each red wood in the park with everyone, the place was beautiful. We were able to spot a waterfall, walk through a never ending  land of redwoods, and see some stars over night. I’m so appreciative to have been able to go there and admire mother natures beauty. Not to mention this was Stanley’s first camping trip ever and my first over night stay in a tent. Big basin= Success! I would highly recommend this place for anyone whose looking for a good hike, fun, and adventures.

After our time at Big Basin, immediately we went to check out our progress in the garden the following morning. To our surprise, our plants have started growing! Hurray, it made everyone’s day to see that the vegetables, strawberries, flowers, and tomatoes we planted a couple days ago, have started sprouting. We’ve been working many hours on getting the garden prepared for reunion this coming weekend for the kids and a hugulkultur which is a slow-decomposing ramble of wood and compost that will grow plants. I’m pretty excited to see over time our progress and how it will turn out by the end of the summer.
