“Ah! It’s soo cold!”

With most days being clg1loudy and cool, this phrase was very commonly spoken during the duration of our lifeguard training as none of us wanted to be the first one to jump in the pool. The gentlemanly thing to do is ‘ladies first’ but the ladies would have none of that. Its a different world we live in now, but let no one say chivalry is dead because we tried. lg7

To get certified through the Red Cross we spent more than 40 hours over the span of a week of time consisting of videos, readings, lectures, discussions, swim conditioning, and hands on work in and out of the pool, all before the final tests.

It was an intensive course but our intricate group managed to have fun while learning. Its just good that our instructors all had a sense of humor to match our antics.

We started with very basic skill like how to survey the pool, enforce rules and recognize signs and symptoms so as to prevent injuries instead of having to save someone. We then moved into CPR, save techniques and defense, back boarding, and first aid. We practiced all components many times so if an injury were to happen during our watch we could respond quickly and know exactly what to do.

Special thanks goes out to the three instructors from Red Cross for all the work they put in to train us: Rebecca, Margret, and Jillian! Now we’re properly equipped for and ready to save lives!……………….Like Batman. lg2
