And training. Hard.
Last week, Antonia, Carly, Brooke, and I all arrived at the beautiful Happy Valley campgrounds.
We had some staff meetings the first few days, then delved into high ropes course training with APEX Adventures and Challenge Works. One of the fellows, Nelda, joined us, as well as one of the cooks, Jacob. We learned a series of complicated scout-worthy knots and safety precautions before belaying. The whole process required a lot of patience and diligence.
However, despite the sometimes frustrating and taxing process, it was all very rewarding and brought the six of us much closer. Doing a high ropes course, above everything else, is an exercise of trust. As we became more competent in our skills, it became easier to climb knowing we would always be caught if we were to fall (as I did through the “Burma Loops”. Whoops!).
After two days of rigorous training and climbing, we are ready to facilitate (with APEX assistance), as Brooke and Antonia are today! Hooray!
Our very first camp-Sierra Pacific Mission Center Reunion-begins today. The excitement begins!
Until next time readers!
