I’ve “grown” to like gardening. Today when Mikayla and I went to the garden I was rewarded by the amount of growth from what we have planted only a couple weeks ago. I can see the cilantro leaves growing on my cilantro plants and my pumpkin vines are sprouting as well.

Today I was also able to harvest a beet that Karli planted. It had been growing in my plot since before I arrived at happy valley.

I brought the beet to Karli and we took it to the kitchen. We cut, washed, and packaged the beet to be used later. It’s so exciting to be growing things for the kitchen. The things that we plant are actually used to feed the people who come to the camp.

The rest of the day was pretty relaxed. I worked from 2:15-5-:15 lifeguarding. I have been enjoying the California sun and the beautiful weather we have in the valley.
